Error 1704 during installation

Message EventLog-Entry: Product: TortoiseSVN 1.6.15.21042 (32 bit) -- Error 1704. An installation for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition - ENU is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?

I said Yes.

After reboot the shell extension is not active (TortoiseSVN menu items do not appear in File Explorer context menu).

Used 1.6.6 before without problems (cache exe stalled from time to time but it continued working ...)

Experience this behavour on two machines:
Windows XP Professional SP3 (32bit)
Vista Ultimate (32bit)
